Implementation of a comprehensive approach to digital accessibility at LUX MED

Author: Agnieszka Gaworska

A few words about the project

From June 2025 to February 2026, we supported LUX MED in the comprehensive development of its digital accessibility. The project included audits of web and mobile applications, defining an accessibility strategy, and training teams responsible for designing and testing digital products.

The Challenge

LUX MED has extensive digital products that customers use daily. Accessibility was not a new issue for the organization – it was present in both legal and image-related contexts.

Until now, selected WCAG requirements had been implemented, but these efforts were fragmented and primarily driven by individual team initiatives. A single, coherent approach was lacking.

The client wanted to streamline activities so that accessibility became a permanent element of product development, and knowledge was shared across the organization. An objective assessment of current solutions and training in the design and testing of accessible applications were also crucial.

At the same time, the organization's high awareness of accessibility and a clearly defined direction of action were evident from the outset. Those involved were committed not only to meeting the requirements but also to truly incorporating accessibility into product development processes. This also translated into excellent team collaboration – both in communication and collaboratively developing solutions.

The key to choosing our company was our experience in working with large organizations (including in developing strategies for an e-commerce company) and a team combining technical and UX expertise. This allowed us to provide a perspective from both the technology and the real user experience.

Solution

The project assumed a comprehensive approach to accessibility within the organization. It required the involvement of various teams developing both web services and mobile applications. Together, we divided the project into four main stages:

  • an accessibility audit of the developed applications, which resulted in the creation of technical and user test reports;
  • preparation of a digital accessibility strategy and vision for the organization's development;
  • training in web and mobile application accessibility for UX designers, developers, and testers;
  • assistance in implementing and maintaining accessibility.

Accessibility Audit

The audit was divided into several phases, covering testing of the website, store, and mobile applications. This allowed us to identify both recurring issues and specific challenges within individual products.

First, we defined the scope of testing, covering key areas of the websites and mobile applications, to capture both common errors and those occurring in specific areas of the system or process.

The tests were conducted by both our technical testers and blind specialists, allowing us to examine the solutions from the perspective of technology, design, and real-world user experience. This approach not only allows us to assess WCAG compliance but also identify issues impacting everyday application use. We described these issues in more detail in the article One report, the whole picture. Why combine WCAG audits and blind user testing?.

Accessibility Strategy

We began developing an accessibility strategy by analyzing the current situation within the organization. We learned about this through numerous meetings and workshops with UX/UI teams, testers, developers, process managers, and analysts.

Based on this, we developed a digital accessibility strategy that structured the direction of the organization's future development. The client received a description of a series of actions we recommended for implementation to ensure accessibility becomes a quality standard in the future development plan.

Training

We conducted two training sessions. One for testers took place online. The second, attended by designers, was held in person at the client's office. The scope of the training was tailored to the teams' needs and the specific products being developed. The training covered topics such as designing and testing accessibility for web and mobile applications.

Comments from surveys completed by training participants:

"The training was tailored to our needs – we focused on the designers' perspective and their role in creating accessible digital products. It was focused, included many examples, and discussed real-world experience, not just "WCAG guidelines.""

"The training was tailored specifically to the LX technology stack and based on our platforms, allowing for an immediate understanding of WCAG in the context of our products. The examples of third-party websites were also very interesting."

Accessibility Implementation and Maintenance

As part of our implementation support, we have prepared a set of practical materials and guidelines to support client teams in their daily work on maintaining product accessibility. The materials include checklists organized by role (UX/UI, development, testing) and specific guidelines for components and interface elements. This allows teams to quickly see what needs to be done at a given stage of the process.

The document also includes links to accessibility resources, such as WCAG guidelines and best design practices. This makes the material not only a checklist but also a practical knowledge base for everyday use.

Results

The project helped streamline the organization's approach to accessibility and create a solid foundation for further development in this area.

The implemented actions translated into tangible changes in the organization's approach to ensuring digital accessibility. Teams gained greater autonomy in working with accessibility, and the risks associated with its lack were significantly reduced. Understanding the needs of application users has also improved.

Accessibility was streamlined and permanently incorporated into organizational processes. As a result, it is now considered early in the design phase of new solutions, and existing products are continually improved based on audit results.

The result of these changes is a significant improvement in product quality. The collaboration demonstrated that an effective approach to accessibility requires consistent actions at multiple organizational levels – from WCAG audits to the daily work of teams and consideration of the perspectives of real users.

Although the main phase of the project has been completed, we continue to support the client as an advisory partner, assisting with ongoing consultations and further development of the accessibility area.
